Very similar to the more common and widespread Parry’s Penstemon, this species can be identified by its coral pink blossoms. The nectar of Superb Beardtongue is a vital resource for Costa’s Hummingbird during its winter-spring breeding season. Penstemons occur across the contiguous United States and Mexico to northern Central America. “Penstemon” and “beardtongue” refer to the often fuzzy or hairy staminode, an infertile stamen.
