Aristolochia watsonii is a perennial plant in the birthwort family, found growing among plants of the Arizona Uplands in the Sonoran Desert. The plant is inconspicuous, small and hard to spot, but can be found by following the pipevine swallowtail which lays eggs on it.
This is a trailing or climbing vine with stems up to 3 feet (0.9 m) long. The 1 inch (2.5 cm) long, arrow-shaped leaves are usually dark brownish-green when growing in full sun. The tubular-funnel form flowers are about 1¼ inches (3.8 cm) long, green with brown spotting.
It is heat and drought tolerant and does best in part shade, but tolerates full sun.
Water once established: Once every month or two. Supplemental water may improve growth. The soil should dry out between waterings.
